Apology : Ok so it has been 20 articles since I worked on Deadly Charisma. Sue me. I find that it takes me around 4 times as long to write these pieces as it does to do an "op-ed" or "news" piece so I will likely only have time for them on the weekends. Maybe I will get some done when I am in Maryland and Estrogen Lass is working. With that said… The Answer Man      Following the incident with SGT Moroni and The Fall , 1SG Gregarious had appar...

I am sure Iran would be only to happy to cooperate in this little gem of a plan : (edit - Shroeder didn't mention Iran this is sarcasm on my part. Hat tip to Gerry Atrick for the heads up on vagueness) "I have doubts whether NATO is the best instrument available to bring stability there," Schroeder told reporters after meeting with Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt. Schroeder, who ruled out any role for German troops in Iraq even before the U.S.-led invasion, said Iraqis would pr...

It was reported this morning that Demi Morre and Ashton Kutcher are very concerned that a number of pics they had taken of themselves during sex would possibly be leaked onto the internet. Apparently they had stored these pictures on a laptop in their friends house. Let me roll that back for you...at their friends house?      Look jackasses, if you want to eliminate possible public humiliation, stop taking pictures during sex! Additionally should t...

*Disclaimer* This is my personal opinion only and in no way reflects the official position of the US Army.        The Army should stop recognizing soldiers marriages. Now that I have your attention let me tell you why. For a large chunk of my time in the US Army I have been legally married. Due to this lifestyle choice the Army has treated me far differently than they treated unmarried soldiers. My rent and utilities are paid. I live off-po...

The Washingon Times reports that U.S. athletes have been waned against waving the U.S. flag at the olympics. The thought process here is that since the U.S. is not very popular right now we should avoid making any "jingoistic" statements or show any national pride.      My question is this... Where does it stop? Should we simply rol over and play dead? Perhaps let the french have a few of our cities as an apology for attacking their lovely frien...

I just flew in from The World Wide Language Olympics and boy are my arms tired! *rim shot* But seriously folks the Olympics were a lot of fun. The Pokekorean and I had our collective asses handed to us by the largest ever field of Korean competitors…26 teams! The Korean contingent was by far the largest group and there were more native Korean speakers amongst those teams than you could shake a stick at. The events were as follows : ...

The credit for this one goes to my wife  : "Effective 18 May HRC will involuntarily transfer all those soldiers who have not completed their 8 year MSO from the IRR to a reserve unit (or Troop Program Units are what they are being referred as) to bring up the reserve strength to 100%, which equates to 23, 000 soldiers. From 1-14 June HRC will involuntarily transfer all non-volunteers to TPU's and send them where ever they please (and this equates up to 60, 000 ...

The Collapse of Reason      Riding high on a building wave of confidence we left the room to await the opening of the Board proceedings. I knew I would not have to hang on the tenterhooks of anticipation for long as my soldier was number 2 on the list. The only soldier before us was one SPC Thicke . SPC Thicke is a pretty good soldier and I was fairly certain she would acquit herself well even though I had not had the opportunity to work directly with her.  &nbs...

Now I know that some of your find this guys blog a bit too extreme for consistent reading. I can certainly see where he crosses the line some times. I would ask that you read this particular article however . I think that Misha's more outrageous comments are most easily understood when you realize the scale of contect he has to frame them in. Compared to most of us here in the US his breadth of experience is nothing short of staggering. As Americans we have diffic...

This will be my now standard once a week non post. Sometimes I just can't hold back. Since the governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Ahmed Sani, introduced a draconian version of sharia in 1999, 11 of Nigeria’s 36 states have followed suit. Five women have been sentenced to death by stoning for adultery, though no punishment has yet been carried out. Thieves have had their hands amputated by court order. One man had his eye removed after accidentally blinding a friend (he could have escaped...

Today was a cascade failure of epic proportions. For those who pine for a bit of clarification, a cascade failure is when a seemingly unimportant task goes undone and results in a catastrophic failure farther down the timeline. This is the origin of the old "for want of a nail the kindom was lost" saw.      It is very difficult to determine the exact beginning of any real life cascade failure due the inextricably linked causal chains that infl...

The new version of the post editor seems to have a problem with the "pure HTML" mode. Every time I use it it displays the article as though I had selected convert mode. If I simply edit the article at that point and do nothing but hit submit again, the article seems to parse *most* of the code correctly but usally leaves some odd artifacts in the body of the text. It especially has problem with href links. Anyone else having this problem? It only started happening when the editor was swapped ou...

Disclaimer : Long post about largely military specific things ahead. You have been warned.      Over the years I have made an informal study of the way different Military Intelligence units form a unique gestalt personality. Oh sure there are some commonalities shared between different M.I. Units across the globe but each has a different flavor much like the UNIX ’s do.      Most of the units I have been in will slowly evolve their personalit...
