(No not in a job/money sort of way)   I just made my first successful loaf of homemade from scratch bread. Came out so well that I took a picture of it (much to my wife's amusement).   And yes I *am* Susi-goddamned-homemaker thank you very much!   The loaf attempted previous to this one had a few issues and was not very photgenic. Tasted alright though (if you like a sort of whole wheat maple cake with a wierd corn bread consistency that is).   ...

For those who care to know I am employed again as of Monday! It is just a short term thing but it pays fairly well and could turn into something more permanent... I am pretty stoked just to be useful again!

*the 7th edit is the charm apparently           Well folks my 13 year detour from normal life has come full circle and dropped me off back on the main road just a few miles from where I started. I am jobless, newly married, and have no college degree.           I don’t want to give the impression that the Army was a bad thing for me by any means. The Army gave me the ...

Hello folks Yes I am still alive. The vaunted Iraqi insurgency didn't manage to get that lucky mortar round in after all (pause to moon the Jaysh Al-Mahdi et al...)      I am not back in the states yet but I am getting a bit closer. Right now we are at an unnamed staging area trying to get our trucks clean enough to pass the customs inspection to alllow them back into the U.S. The thng is that every time we go to the washrack (picture an industri...

Just came in from setting up the reception for the change of command we have here today. It is 106 degrees under the shade of the gazebo and somewhat hotter than that outside of the gazebo. Me and another guy who has been in the Army almost as long as I have laid out the buns, salad, near beer, and other sundry items so that everyone can pretend that the ceremony is for the soldiers (who hate these things) after the officers get done stroking each other of...

While the title pretty much says it all but I really can't emphasize the differences between the Russian version of "everything she said" and the English enough! Kazaa for the Russian video if you are interested.

Ever had a job that drove you to reach for the brass ring ? I have one. The difference is that my brass ring is made of something that even the likes of Michio Kaku are hard pressed to understand much less master. I am not an idiot but I am no Michio Kaku either. Despite the obviousness of such an observation most of me co-workers are in fact convinced that I was born with the ability to see the electomagnetic spectrum and play with it's eddies...

Had a fairly shitty morning today (smoked myself every 12 hours this week....then had a surprise PT test... you know even when it is not for the record doing poorly bums me out.... even when I have an excuse) but it was all better because KLFX played Pantera's Walk on the way home. BTW Walk was RVD's theme back in his ECW days.... He should have stuck with it.   P.S. I appreciate SGT New-age Hippie's attempts to cheer me up this morning... I was just being a...

(This will be a two parter folks, consider yourself warned)      One of the things about the military that has long troubled me is the subject of promotion. Today’s modern military force was reorganized some 25 years ago along a modified Corporate model. Along with many positive changes in personnel management, pay resolution, and reductions in economic wastes came the Up-or-Out! Promotion system .      Under this system a soldier has certai...

Today our platoon was heartily engaged in a vital mission of futility. Having recently received a newly minted Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) as our Battalion Commander (BC), we have embarked on a hell-bent-for-leather plot to deceive him. Allow me to elucidate .      Our new BC is by all accounts a hell of a guy and one the best Military Intelligence/Aviation officers of our time. His accomplishments have been stellar, his assignments rewarding, and hi...

In the Army one of the worst feelings is when you or your unit is told to do something that you know the majority of post is just blowing off. Morning PT is a good example. Nearly everyone on Ft. Hood does PT Mon-Wed-Fri... la-dee-da-dee everybody as the saying goes. The problem goes at 0535 as I pull out of my house on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Normalyy on the other days there is a nearly unroken string of traffic creaming by my apartment complex on their way to PT. On th...

(Note : I will do more of the Charisma series when I get home I promise.)      Last night The Lass and I went out to Ruth's Chris Steak House in Annapolis. Like every other night we had gone out on it was cold and rainy but we soldiered on as it had to be better than the night we went to the Orioles game (shiver)....     I had made our reservations online here (very easy and free) and we drove the KIA down. The Lass was a little apprehensive about letti...
