Just came in from setting up the reception for the change of command we have here today. It is 106 degrees under the shade of the gazebo and somewhat hotter than that outside of the gazebo. Me and another guy who has been in the Army almost as long as I have laid out the buns, salad, near beer, and other sundry items so that everyone can pretend that the ceremony is for the soldiers (who hate these things) after the officers get done stroking each other off.

Sometimes it gets pretty deep. We actually have the sunday paper laid out by sections on my NCOIC's desk just in case the the Brigade Commander comes in for a quick fellating. Can't have him actually paging through the paper to ind the section he needs. Might get a paper cut an smear his blue blood onto something one of us of the untouchable caste touched.

     Fuck I hate officers.

Are officers really that bad in the US Army? Here in Britain an officer's first task is to gain the trust and respect of his men, this has to be earned not commanded. The officer training course here is said to be the best in the world, so maybe that makes all the difference, but then what would you expect!!

I was a Colonel's driver for about 6 months at Bragg. One of the colonel's I drove for asked me a lot of questions about the troops in 1st COSCOM. One of the questions was about those "change of command" ceremonies. I told him, "Well Sir, I can honestly say that we like the actual ceremony much better than the practices." He then asked me why. "Because Sir, when the actual ceremony is over, we don't have to form back up and do it all again!"

We also talked about how most troops really get to know their Company Commanders and sometimes even Battalion Commanders, so the change of command "pass and review" does mean something at that level, but anything above that and it doesn't really mean much. That kind of hit home with this Colonel, he told me about the mixed feelings he had about getting promoted to LTC, knowing that he wouldn't know most his troops in any commands he held after that.

If I may be so bold as to answer Robbie Ferguson myself: Here our officers are trained to gain our trust and respect also. Some officers take the training to heart, while others don't. It's what makes the difference between the Officers who get saluted, and the Officers whose rank does.

Gawd you took me back to the days of once a month parades and brass stroking at Ft. MacPhearson where we would have bets on how many people would "fall out" from the heat based on which wind bag was speaking.

Ft. Mac where you are issued dress blues you would hate it there there are 2 senior officer to each enlisted and a nice row of 18 Generals across from our barracks.

drop by www.hunterryansmom.blogspot.com if you need proof that one day ther will be a civi life

Grey,
How much longer 'til your out?

Robbie,
If I didn't know you were telling the truth, I'd simply suspect that you were being conceited with your "but then what would you expect!!" comment...

I am telling the truth, all of the British Officers i know are great people, although i don't know any particularly highly ranking officers, maybe they're different. Anyway, some of the best people i know are officers. How you yanks can follow a stuck up, self-centred %$£*& i have no idea. I certainly don't envy you. Why don't you try to transfer to a special unit like the Rangers, they'll have better quality. You've gotta remember the whole thing wouldn't work without the officers.
Wait a minute, a lot of you guys are conscripted in arent you? No wonder you've got bad people, if they don't want to be there how the hell can they be commited??
