You could probably write a tell about your time as a child rapist and make money.

CSPAN2 has had Karpinksi huckstering her new book all day today and Bill O’reilly just had Mary Mapes on the Factor promoting her unfinished 6 figure advance book on Memogate as well. "Fuck up and we the Moronic Consumer Drones will make you rich!" is the message here.

The Karpinski thing makes my blood boil as she will live out her life in confort and riches as the left-wing pimps her “book” to the moon (it makes the military look like morons you see) while the enlisted soldiers involved in Abu Ghraib rot in prison. Fuck you Officer Corps. I guess the glass ceiling has been shattered finally… at least enough so that women can get in on the Mutual Handjob Club now too.

Don’t get me wrong here…I don't want the soldiers released just because the ring/cock-knockers went easy on poor Karpinski... the soldiers should be in prison and the officers in charge should have been executed… want my reasoning for that? Read it here. (Man JU needs a search function that works… took me forever to find that one) Moving on...

Mapes helps Dan Rather use fake memos to attempt to discredit the Hated Bush right before the election and she makes more money from that than she would in a decade of good journalism? Fuck you American Consumer! Let me Spit In Your Eye Journalistic Integrity!

Buy either of these books and the next time you wonder why the country seems to have lost it’s moral compass…? You can look to yourselves… sheeple.

And Another Thing!

Mary Mapes : “Bill I will say that I think Cindy Sheehan is very tough to be able to stand outside in Texas for any time at all.”

This was after Bill had pressed her about whether she believed Sheehan was legitimate. Mapes of course simply refused to answer since she would have to either openly proclaim her ideological support of the left or she would have to lie and say that she thought Sheehan wasn’t. Instead we get a moronic and also misleading statement about Cindy’s hardship in Texas.

Mapes wasn’t joking here folks… she wanted us to picture poor Cindy out in the Texas sun for hours in August. They call them portable pavilions folks and they cost 19.95 at Wal-Mart. Sheehan and crew had a few of those, air conditioned SUV’s (oh yes they were there with Cindy’s Move-on.org folks holding signs up to the windows live on CNN), tents, food, and drink. It was not a sunbaked vigil by a forlorn mom.

I get your points.

However (isn't there always a however? hahah) I think most people aren't as news savy as you seem to be. I caught the last part of the Mapes interview on Fox with Bill. I thought she was obstinate and I could tell by the look on her face she was a liberal long before Bill told me who she was and what she was on tv for.

So having said all that I will say this. Most people, myself included, buy books about people who SCREW up because its nice to read about someone "Famous" who makes mistakes just like I do. I know it sounds trite, ok it is trite, but anyway that is why these books sell to a lot of people.

For instance, being a journalist I might buy her book just to see how she made each decision to basically end her career. Were they reasoned? Was it a conspiracy? Granted, I may not believe every word she says, but I would read the book from that standpoint.

Second, I might buy and read her book because I like Dan Rather and never really understood him getting canned. (I don't care in real life I just wanna make the point.)

Third, I may just buy the book because I hate her and want to read her explanation of her own stupidity. (Not really, but again a point.)

Last, I won't buy her book because the whole two minutes I saw her on Bill's show I thought, well duh, I KNOW how she got fired. You can look at her and tell she thinks too much of herself. I saw it all the time in the business. The more someone feels famous the more inflated their opinion of themselves become, so that they don't need evidence, THEY are the evidence. If they think its true, well then by an act of their sheer will, it is TRUTH! And HOW DARE ANYONE disagree!

Ok, so I do agree with you that the worse you act the better your book sales. But I think there actually are reasons for it besides mindless hordes wanting to read about degenerates (though I am sure they make up for no small number of sales!).

That's my 2 cents.

Aside:  GW, put an adult label on this.

Excellent points.  I did not realize that Karpinski was do a kiss and tell book.

Grey - good points.

Tova - I understand your points, but I don't agree. I think that your third point is the most legit. The first two rely on the author telling the "truth" of what happened. Nobody will admit they were involved in a conspiracy, etc. etc. If you want to find out the "truth" behind incidents like these, you need to read books written by critics (from both sides) who have a strong historical/journalistic research background, who will give a third-party account of what happened. This will do a few things:

First - it will give you a (hopefully) unbiased view of what occurred, with blame laid at the feet of all those guilty. (I know, it is rare to find this, but it will be more "balanced" than anything written by the principals themsevles).

Second - It won't "reward" the idiots for doing something wrong. You reward a real "author" who does their research into a subject, and then reports on it. They deserve the book sales, not the criminals.

Oh, I'm definitely with you on this one. I write for a living and have 10 books published, but not one of them has done as well as one written by a snake, a criminal, or a celeb, or should I say "NOT-written" by a celeb. Even Hillary Clinton, who got $8M for her book, probably had about as much to do with writing it as she'd have to do with the Masonic Lodge. I'm very sick and tired of being treated poorly, just because I really write the books with my name on the cover. Oh, and if anyone thinks that Karpinski actually wrote that drivel, you're probably quite mistaken. Thanks for your time.

I agree Mary Mapes screwed up. However, in terms of screw ups, Bush is far out in front of Mapes. Although the documentrs that CBS used were fake, the story about how Bush failed to attend drills, how he did not obey Air Force regs to take his physical and was grounded and How is got into the guard with the help of the Speaker of the Texas house are ALL TRUE! How he got an Honorable discharge should be investigated. Members of the military that do not obey regulations do not receive Honorable discharges!

Neither one of those despicable, morally reprehensible individuals will get a penny out of me.

actually this is pretty routine... especially in the Guard and reserves. Drills are "optional" in a great many units, i hate tot ell ya but the Guard and Reserve are not at all like the rest of the military.

Pfft...more proof you are not who you claim to be.

Sturgee...you are right. I wasn't implying I was gonna buy the books, just that I don't believe most Americans think that much about it and buy them...someone is buying these things and they can't all be liberal lovers. KWIM?

If it's so TRUE, why do you need to forge eveidence to prove it? And where is any evidence now?

Not a Bush vs. the left thread.

Well, you dont like Bush, but you raised THE point.  Glad you see that much.
