Just went and cleaned out my AKO (Army Knowledge Online) email account and found this :

The U.S. Army Enlisted Records and Evaluation Center (EREC) Staff wish to congratulate you on your promotion to Staff Sergeant.

You need to take steps now for your next promotion.

The funny part here is that I have been flagged for non-promotability due to being a fat bastard for oh lets say going on 2 years now. I in fact reminded our company many and several times about this fact and that they needed to take my name off of the standing promotion list.

The funnier part is that when I did leave the Army, PERSCOM was aggressively seeking to get rid of as many Korean linguists as possible. They had reduced our re-enlistment bonus from $40,000 to $0 and were encouraging us to move into other jobs within the Army or to simply leave as I did. Promotion points were nailed to the ceiling since we were overstrength in all ranks. Of course this was entirely due to a total clerical cock-up regarding the MTOE of the new Prophet tactical intercept system. The old guard among the field knew this of course and said so loudly but no one gives a shit until after the cock-up does it's damage.

Well done US Army...well done.

too Funny Greywar!!!

Kind of like the evaluation that was in my records for 13B (Artillery) A/NCOC... when I was still a Specialist. ;~D

Apparently I did great in the class, all my bullet statements were above average. ;~D

I'll drink to that.

Congratulations xSSG! Guess they decided to force that promotion on you, since you never wanted it. Sort of a bass-ackwards slap on the toosh on the way out?

Still on terminal leave when they sent it? (just wondered if it would have counted or not?)

Not likely in any case since i was in fact flagged at the time. Granted I could have argued the case had I wanted to promoted based ont he grounds that they didn't even come close to meeting requirements for flagging me under weight control....

There's also the 12 months service remaining requirement.

edit: Wait, are you sure this will be the last idiocy? Didn't you just write an article about a Colonel...?

It's funny (and sad), but over the past few years I've noticed a lot of SSG's making the SFC list late, late in their carreers. Same for SFC's making the MSG list. It seems as if the Army is using promotions to keep people in longer than the RCP of their current rank. And, every year there is always two or more people on the promotion list that have already retired or gotten out.
