Ol'
Bill opined recently that the iPod will likely lose a large chunk of
it's market share to cell phones in the near future and I have to agree with
him. I love mp3 players but I won't carry one around with me just to hear music.
That's just the way I am. I won't pay several hundred bucks for a largely
one-trick pony.
My wife has a Blackberry (she needed a
new phone) and while I have never actually laid hands on hers (I bought it for
her while I have been here in Iraq) the feature list on the damn thing is
impressive. With hard drive miniaturization screaming ahead it won't be long
before they manage to cram a 40+Gig drive into a RIM Blackberry without even
changing the functional and attractive formfactor of the 7100T.
Combine the PDA, phone, and music
player functions in one device that size and I will be hard pressed to
maintain my long standing aversion to carrying a cell phone (electronic leash I
tell you!). Unless Apple figures out some killer application or new niche
product they face another Mac slide and soon.
If you can make me want a phone... you win.
