Nothing Beats New Boots and Body Armor!

CIF goes smoothly!

Went over to the Central Issue Facility (CIF) today and got me a large bag of new Desert Combat Uniforms (DCU's), various hot/cold weather items, 2 new pairs of Desert boots (thank you GEN Schwartzkopf!), and a spanking new set of revamped body armor complete with ballistic plates of the type described by Wanderer here.

Now in the past I have had bad experiences with CIF due to high demand, but now since most of Ft. Hood is already in Iraq, the CIF employees natural level of sloth, inattention, and lack of sense couldn't stop them from giving me my whole issue in just under 40 minutes! A new record!

Back to the SCIF to watch videotapes of a class of people watching a videotaped class (yes thats right) for a few hours I had notched yet another tick onto my "ready to deploy" stick.

After dropping my new uniforms off to have nametapes and such sewn on (CIF would do it for free but couldn't give me a date of completion before I would leave) I got a ridiculously short haircut and trundled off home to continue trying to figure out how I am going to get out of this apartment on time! Thanks for your support folks. I really do appreciate it. No worries though, I am a rear echelon type of guy and I shouldn't be in much danger unless I am terribly unlucky

In other news Oleteach and Sysop Allen are on their way down here to visit before I go and Estrogen Lass should be back here for a bit too.

Well, it is good to get some news as we make our way toward TX. I have a thousand questions to ask but you probably can't answer most of them. Save some jobs for me! See you Thursday for sure, if all goes as well as it has thus far, with good road conditions and fair but very cold weather. I sure hope EL will get back to you for Christmas.

You'll probably get even more cool stuff when you get to Kuwait. (If you go through there. It's likely.) bring a pancho liner if you don't have one, and a pillow. they sell small ones at clothing sales, or the PX at DOHA. Don't laugh off the long underwear on the packing list. and you'll really like the body armor once you attach you combat load to it. try to spread it more toward the sides, if you wear it up front, it pulls your spine out of line and back aches will plague you forever. Bring cash. bring a good supply of your favorite condiments. keep low, don't bunch up, and hurried is slow, but slow is smooth, and smooth is fast. Anything else? I don't know.
