Sangus gets bent....

One of my favorite activities is to use the Create-A-Player feature in console sports games to create sports versions of our platoon members. These are of course exaggerated versions of our MI pogue selves but it is amusing (to me at at least). Recently I started this with ESPN NFL 2K5 on a small scale. My preseason team consisted of: Pseudosoldier at center (6'3" 405 lbs very slow yet powerful), SGT Silverback as the Midle Linebacker (7'0" 313 lbs monster), SPC Egregious at Free Safety (6'2" 235 lbs and jumps like a deer), and lastly an old favorite Sangus at Wide Receiver (5'3" 150 lbs (the smallest I could make)). This was a hell of a combo in the preseason and I tore through all four opponents by a revolting margin.

Great! I thought until I realized that I couldn't advance to the regular season since I was 15 million dollars over the salary cap. So some of them had to go. Sangus was first out as his 8.9 million dollar a year contract was far and away the highest. I got a great deal for him and was even happier to see that he took a criplling spinal injury in the first game of the season with the Cardinals taking him out for the entire season after one play! (I chortled quite heartily over this) I only wish it had been SGT Silverback who had put the hit on.

Additionally Pseudo had to go and I have no clue how he is doing as Centers have very little stats to track.

SGT Silverback and my crew of rookies (I only picked rookies for the rest of my fictional team), get so many sacks per game that in every instance we have taken out the first two Qb's to take the field before the end of the first half!

Why write this you ask? well because I was mightily bored at work today and also because it involved Sangus getting his ass handed to him. That is always worth a minute or two of my time....

While yer at it, grey, you should bring your cronies on over to yahoo fantasy football and play in chip's league. Winner gets to write a "gloat" blog; losers all have to write an homage to the winner.

Yeah, what Gideon wrote about the fantasy football league! Estrogen Lass joined. SSG Geezer has said he will join. Where are you?

I've been doing the same with Madden games for years. I probably have an old PS2 memory card stashed away with a greywar on the roster somewhere. The advantage to Madden is that you can disable the salary cap and keep an entire roster of 'friends'. I also did this with MVP Baseball, but you can't disable the salary cap, so you can keep the players as rookies with one year contracts, but then they demand higher pay. You can't even trade them at that point, as MVP treats them as free agents once you pass on their contracts. I lost 4 of my 5 starting pitchers and 6 of my 8 position players that way.

A friend from Korea also suggested I get the NCAA football game by EA Sports. You can create HS players and recruit them into your college of choice. They don't always sign but you can still follow them as they progress. The best part is that after 3-4 years of college play, they go pro and you can import them into Madden. One catch, though, is that just because you create a guy with awesome stats in NCAA, he doesn't necessarily carry that all over to the pros.

I just wish one of these damn games came with a character "roller" or something that kept me from just arbitrarily assigning massive stats to my friends. Now that would be fun.

Yeah, that would help. The NCAA to pro transition thing does that a little, but it's not like a roller, it just downgrades some scores.

I usually do the max out thing, too, but the random generator would be coll option. And, you could then yell at the real life guy for how much the avatar sucks! Actually, I did that in Korea anyway. My QB in Madden 04 was named after my morse desk partner and he got injured a lot (despite a maxed out toughness score at creation). I gave him crap about being a puss all the time.

You and your delusional fantasies of me getting my ass handed to me...

Your going to have to come up with something better than a fantasy football league in order to get the satisfaction your looking for. I suggest you think about upgrading your system and preparing it for the half-life 2 / counter strike source FPS which is in many ways almost exactly like the holy soldier of fortune 2 which we were so fond of back in the day.

If you don't want to bring your game to something you are incapable of winning at like a first person shooter and would rather put your faith in something like your strategic ability which I admit at one point in my life exceeded mine then you are going to have to name the pain.

Guess I spoke too soon on the whole Madden being better because you can disable the salary cap... They took that option out of 2005. So, now I have to play by the Ma(dde)n's rules of reality! Crap!

Sangus - You might have difficulty finding him lately. He's completely immersed in alcohol. Er. I mean, the football game. (He's only soaking in the sauce.)
Honestly, grey has gone on record as saying he's terrible at FPS. You'll have to take him on at something he's good at... I suggest face-to-face SSX3.
