The credit for this one goes to my wife :

"Effective 18 May HRC will involuntarily transfer all those soldiers who have not completed their 8 year MSO from the IRR to a reserve unit (or Troop Program Units are what they are being referred as) to bring up the reserve strength to 100%, which equates to 23, 000 soldiers. From 1-14 June HRC will involuntarily transfer all non-volunteers to TPU's and send them where ever they please (and this equates up to 60, 000 soldiers). So, in other words, contact your reserve unit or reserve career counselor and volunteer because if you dont, they are going to send you where you need to be based on the needs of the Army. If you volunteer, at least you get to choose your unit."

For the civilians out there who may be confused.... When you enlist in the Army you actually enlist for 8 years total time. This may be composed of 4 years active duty followed by 4 years in the Inactive Ready Reserve (IRR) or any combination of years that adds up to 8. The time spent on IRR had no requirements beyond being somewhat contactable, you didn't do any weekend drills or anything. IRR was simply a long-term contingency plan sort of affair. Not any more. Now soldiers leaving the Active duty military will have to fulfill the remainder of their 8 year commitemnt in the actual Reserve component witht he one weekend a month and two weeks a years requirement and the possibility of activation for war. I know several people directly affected by this change but it has not received much press.

Good Luck folks.

How very expected of you. Is that the best you could think up? Try a little harder next time. I expected more of a tongue-lashing from such a high-strung individual. Retrain.......and try at it again.

I admit that propriety towards my cherished wife has taken the venom from my tongue. As always I am speechless in the face of your lovelyness.

Please stop trying to kill the thread with lovey-dovey saccharine.
I hadn't been aware that they do track down the AWOLs. I had always heard that they just sort of... let them go. If you say it is so, I believe you, and even rejoice (well, a little). People need to sign up (and re-up) for the military with their eyes open, a lesson that I continue to relearn. And people need to be ready to face the consequences of their actions. With the fallout of the IRR non-announcement, I found that a soldier I know apparently didn't even know about the 8-year total commitment, and thought he was free after 5. feh.
Also, I wasn't really faulting you for trying to take care of your own. Again, who better than someone who actually *likes* the big oaf?

I love you, sweetie, and flattery gets you everwhere with me. Hey...look to the right.....you have beat out that Muggaz guy....cool. Back to the thread though....
How can somebody who was in the Army for 5 years NOT KNOW about the 8 year MSO? That is umm....how can I say it......Well, i dont know what I am trying to say, but I know that when he came in through that station called MEPS, they told him. Oh....and its in his contract.
And Pseudo....I take the lovey-dovey saccharine stuff whenever I can get it. So na na na na.

Greywar is getting a pretty good push, being put over a lot of long-time superstars here. Muggaz, for example, is being forced to job for awhile... some call it a passing of the torch, some call it a screw-job swerve.
About the clueless soldier... it was the Pokekorean. Maybe he was making a bit of a joke, but it was lost on me. Then again, he's the same kid who told me about the guy who complimented him on his dancing and bought him a drink... but he wasn't sure if he was being hit upon.

He is extremely clueless. He once was playing a drinking game in which you were given a normal word and in order to avoid drinking all you had to do was come up with a dirty word that ryhmed with it. Pokekorean's clue word was "Bunt". He had to drink because he couldn't think of a dirty word to rhyme it with.
