Don't take away my VRWC card yet folks...

Look... I love Bill. I thought Bill was a breath of fresh air on the scene years ago. Problem is that the rest of the industry has been catching upt o Bill's schtick and now even the loathed (by the far-right at least) Steven Colbert is doing Bill better than Bill himself. I still turn to Bill for coverage of important issues that aren't media darlings (child abuse, ACLU hypocracy, crooked judges) but for sheer enjoyment and "everyman" perspective on current events I will be looking to Beck's new show on CNN.

Beck is more entertaining than Bill any day of the week and at least as "pithy". Flame away if you like but it is nice to see CNN give the conservative view a show of it's own as well. Just one man's opinion. If you don't like it then well... you are horribly horribly wrong...

I like Glenn Beck. He is irreverant without being nasty. His shows are funny. I have not caught his TV show, but listen to him on the radio.

I like Glenn Beck.

Me too. I don't watch much TV but I do like to catch Glenn Beck. I like the humourous slant he puts on things.
on May 11, 2006
I used to listen to his radio show over the net and he would occasionally also put up a webcam'd simulcast as well. I always founs his webcam stuff to be even more amusing than the dialogue alone and I think the CNN guys must have aggreed. The show is outstanding and quite different from most anything else out there.

Moron Trivia, Duct tape for the head.........

I've never seen anyones head just exolpode on its own. Is it cool to watch?
on May 12, 2006
Wow.

It happened.

Glenn Beck finally got a shot at the big time.

Now we can watch him stuff his foot in his mouth instead of listening to the sound of leather scraping his tongue on the radio.

I don't care much for O'Reilly's gimmicky line of questioning - designed to keep his guests from actually supporting their answers from his attacks - but at least O'Reilly has a few brain cells saving him from public embarrassment.

For like-minded individuals I can certainly see Beck as an ultimate gift to them but make sure to check his facts - and the context they belong to.

Interesting that you would post this without linking to anything supporting your assertion (or rather implication) that Beck makes up facts.

Let me point you to some media folks who did make up facts and then got caught... it's really not hard to do... Here one, and another, and another, and another. Ok the last one wasn't a journalist making things up but rather simply accepting a ridiculous story with the breathless credulity of a 14-year old girl forwarding her first AOL chain letter.

Ouch!  Debating with facts and supporting documentation!  Guess that is dirty pool these days.

Yeah, cheap shot Greywar. Using facts to debunk tenuous beliefs...

...how could you be so cruel?

I guess I'll have to check out Glenn Beck one of these days.

This is why I love JU.

The spoon-feeding. Gotta' dadgum spoonfeed folks; simply allowing one to ram one's point home over and over and over again. I love it.

Now, I apologize gentlemen (Greywar - specifically) for the long turnaround on response time. I've had to take a second job in addition to attending classes to pay bills manufactured by this 'stupendous' economy of ours.

Little things like the price of gas today, my tuition going up 7% (read: ~$400.00), and increasing health insurance costs really hurt a twenty-six-year-old trying to make it in America's 'great' economy. But you'll hear about that later - I'm sure.

Let's do this.

Now we can watch him stuff his foot in his mouth instead of listening to the sound of leather scraping his tongue on the radio. - Deference

Yep, that's what I said.

To be clear - I did not say this:

...Beck makes up facts. - Greywar

That's what you wish I'd said. However, I've listened to enough Glenn Beck to know the man trades in commentary and rhetoric - not fact. Attempting to debate what is Glenn Beck 'fact' with what is Glenn Beck fiction with Glenn Beck fanboys is not my frustrating intention.

Pointing out to JU denizens they should become more aware of facts concerning topics Glenn Beck may choose and suggesting a broader context for their more accurate judgement of his point of view is what I deemed paramount to understanding Beck's lack of grasping the full of issues. The same follows for Franken, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, and Mr. Moore.

These guys are jesters speaking to dittoheads. Vapid entertainment feeding the partisan wars.

As for your accurate calling of the media manufacturing stories, making 'mistakes' in their choice of sources, and virtually creating a media bubble in the U.S. of A. to create false impressions I encourage you to continue plumbing the depths of the media's wool over our eyes - but I urge you not to be too selective or loyal to any particular source of 'enlightenment'.

(I'm still more concerned of our government paying reporters to misinform us or pay undue reverence to government pet-projects but choose your priorities as you will)

Ouch! Debating with facts and supporting documentation! Guess that is dirty pool these days.
- Doc. Guy

Yeah, how 'bout that. Too bad Greywar didn't include the price of tea in China with his documention - his notes might have mattered even less in relation to my point, but thanks for showing your ass - I miss that asssssssssss.

(Especially burning it with a white hot aluminum DEFERENCE brand during debate)

Yeah, cheap shot Greywar. Using facts to debunk tenuous beliefs... - Singrdave

Keep singin' dave - but don't quit your day job.

Here are some of the instances I had in mind when I referred to Beck's mouth and foot fetish; certain social blunders a smarter man may have saved himself from and still made a good point:

From the September 9 broadcast of The Glenn Beck Program wherein Glenn Beck speaks of hating 9/11 Victims' Family Members and refers to Katrina Survivors as "scumbags":

..you know, it took me about a year to start hating the 9-11 victims' families? Took me about a year.

But the second thought I had when I saw these people and they had to shut down the Astrodome and lock it down, I thought: I didn't think I could hate victims faster than the 9-11 victims

And that's all we're hearing about, are the people in New Orleans. Those are the only ones we're seeing on television are the scumbags

Two small faux pauxs not likely to increase Beck's 15 minutes of fame, but this action by some southerners (typically a Republican stronghold) is quite a hoot.

"The people of the South have tolerated Glenn Beck’s harsh treatment of the south for more than 2 years now. We’ve allowed Beck to eat our fried chicken (and by looking at how fat he is he eats a lot of it). We’ve tolerated his attacks on NASCAR. We allowed Beck to mock with the south with his, ‘I love my sister’ show. We’ve even allowed Beck to spew his message of hate about the Confederate flag. Yet we still listened.

However, where has this tolerance gotten us?

On the May 15th show of the Glenn Beck Program, Glenn Beck disgraced the South by mocking Lynyrd Skynyrd!

This is simply too much. We can not tolerate his hatred of the South any longer. This is a call for the entire South to boycott the Glenn Beck Program until he apologizes on the air for his disgraceful comments."

Glenn Beck: Dumber then O'Reilly but smart enough to hang himself.
on May 17, 2006

Here is exactly what you said:

For like-minded individuals I can certainly see Beck as an ultimate gift to them but make sure to check his facts - and the context they belong to

You said that we should check Beck's facts not :

they should become more aware of facts concerning topics Glenn Beck

as you re-phrased in your page long comment.

Your second comment actually makes sense after about line 40 or so, especially the part where Beck takes pains to explain that his show is commentary and not news. Problem is that is simply not what you said in your fist post which pretty clearly states that you think Beck's facts need chjecking (if you want to argue that this somehow doesn't imply that he would be making them up or getting them wrong well I have nothing for you). You posted something ill-advised, got taken to task for it, came back, re-phrased and then claimed you never said it. That's pretty weak. I especially enjoy how you quote my exact point in the first line of your comment and then never address it.

Thanks for showing your ass.

BTW I know you are relatively new to my blog and JU as well but posting page long comments on a posting that was originally half that length is considered extremely rude and spam-esque for most bloggers. I will let this one go since it is your first one but stuff liek that won't fly in the future. Leave links with short synopses.

I like glenn beck have listened to his very entertaining show for a while now. that's what his show is ENTERTAINMENT!

Nice to see deference around again, hope all is well in school, keep working to that bright future you have waiting def. ps. soon as you have that bright future and aquire "things" watch how fast you change to a republican. heh heh

I take Glenn with a grain of salt. If he says something interesting, I'll go hunt it down on the web to see if there's any substance to it.

A few months later...

Thank you for the kind words, Moderateman. I am and always will be highly conservative - regardless of my possessions or social status. I don't know if I'd ever accept the label of Republican again, however, due to the astoundingly poor performance of the Republican party since Bush Jr.'s first year in office (that was the turning point).

Greywar, I've waited for a while to post this response for the benefit of your recovering from your initial Glenn Beck fanboy fervor in the hope of you simply reading my words and understanding what they say instead of reflexively defending beloved entertainer and commentator Glenn Beck.

You said that we should check Beck's facts not.... - Greywar

This seemed to be the main plank of your complaint with my opinion on Beck - a man whose smarmy demeanor makes it nigh impossible for me to stomach even a segment of his show.

Your attempt to attack my semantics to somehow salvage some dignity for yourself is desperate. Feigning stupidity to somehow insulate yourself from my point is frustrating and below par - I very much hope you never again utilize the tactic as it wears out my keyboard attempting to translate for you only to have you attack me for restating my original thought in the hope of us coming to understanding.

Yes, check Beck's facts, the facts he uses, the way he frames a topic, everything - good common sense for all viewers digesting today's media.

Thanks for showing your ass. - Greywar

Thanks. It's a good ass. Most Ju users haunting the political forums understand that at one point or another, they will eventually have the opportunity to see def.'s ass.

BTW I know you are relatively new to my blog and JU as well... - Greywar

Gotta' stop you right there. You've been here for a while but you've not seen my ass? I've been posting since the last election. I'm not new.

... but posting page long comments on a posting that was originally half that length is considered extremely rude and spam-esque for most bloggers. - Greywar

I apologize but not everything can come in five-second sound bites that looks good on the back of one's bumper. Some topics are very convoluted and require many words to cover all the bases. I think you understand that and are selectively enforcing this imaginary rule of yours in an attempt to truncate other JU user's responses to your articles. Whatever makes you feel warm and fuzzy about giving yourself a handicap is your prerogotive but I will tell you that if you delete a response of mine to you or ban me from your blog when I have a response to something you have said my words to you will come in article form from my blog and then you can come and play where the field is level - like someone who doesn't need a handicap to scrape by.

I will let this one go since it is your first one but stuff liek that won't fly in the future. Leave links with short synopses. - Greywar

Yeah, that's neat, I've noticed you enforcing that imaginary rule this last month. <-------- { note extreme sarcasm }
