Not according to Iran.

For any of you UN adoring chuckleheads out there who think that "sanctions" and expressions of "deep dissapointment" mean anything to anyone outside of the UN's own pathetically corrupt organization here is this tidbit straight from the horse's mouth:

"Even if (the Westerners) destroy our scientists, their successors would continue the job," he said. "It would not be easy for them to solve the (nuclear) case by imposing sanctions or anything like that." - Former Iranian President Rafsanjani in response to the UN considering sanctions.

Why don't we try hitting them with a powder puff and then maybe sitting down and pouting like a hippie at a peace rally with 100 people in it?

Why is it that when I hear the word "sanctions" all I picture are fat dictators getting fatter while kids starve?

Why is it that when I hear the word "diplomacy" all I picture are leaders acting like their words actually mean something to fat dictators who starve kids?

So, I take it you've never dealt with kids or drunken fools, huh? "Go ahead and hit me, it won't hurt!" is a common theme among both, and the results usually leave them with bruises and/or blood flowing freely. Sanctions DO hurt, if they are kept in place, and one way we know they hurt is because those in danger of having them put in place against them begin their "it won't hurt" blustering as soon as it seems to be in the works. Believe it or not, the results of W's push into Iraq proved this to be true, since as of today, almost four years later, no WMD's have been found anywhere. Their blustering convinced some of us that they were well on their way to having them, yet in reality.....nothing. However, while we've been concentrating of the Paper Tiger, Iran has moved ahead with it's programs and truly do seem on the way to having those very weapons. Hmmmmm. Didn't Kerry warn us about this very thing during the elections? And we laughed......
