Just a quick note here... While the Bible certainly
has many great points using it as "proof" of God's will is a double edged sword.
Want to justify slavery? Use the following:
Exodus
21:2 If thou buy an Hebrew
servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out
free for nothing.
21:7 And if a man sell his
daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants
do.
Deuteronomy
15:12 And if thy
brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve
thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from
thee.
Colossians (Paul)
4:1 Masters, give unto your servants that which is just
and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.
3:22 Servants, obey in all things your masters
according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness
of heart, fearing God;
Or "prove" that God is against it out of the same book with these!
Exodus
Ex.21:16 He that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his
hand, he shall surely be put to death.
Deuteronomy
Dt.24:7 If a man be found stealing any of his brethren of the children of
Israel, and maketh merchandise of him, or selleth him; then that thief shall
die.
Jeremiah
Jer.22:13 Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his
chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbors service without wages, and giveth
him not for his work.
My point is NOT that the Bible is a bad book or
that Christians are evil or any of that claptrap but merely that the Bible is
about as good a "proof" of God's mind as a Betty Crocker Cookbook
is.
