Update : Glenn Reynolds  has a link to this article on life extension (worth the click) which adds to the meat of this article.       There is a debate brewing in this nation between traditional values groups and the transhumanists. Simply put the transhumanists would like to push the human race forward through use of genetic engineering, nanotech, and cloning while traditionalists would prefer not to tinker with such matters fo...

With the current flp over “ counter-recruiting ” I thought I should give the Army it’s due. I joined the Army in 1992 and it has been pretty kind to me. So far they have sent me to:   Ft. Jackson, South Carolina (Basic) The Presidio of Monterey (DLI for a bit over a year) CP Humphreys, South Korea (Work, can’t say much about it) Fort Meade, MD (Working for No Such Agency) Cp Humphreys, South Korea (4 ...

This should settle it. Of course some lunatics will insist that Bush bought off all of Italys or something equally senseless. Mario Marioli, a deputy commander of the US-led coalition troops in Iraq, was quoted by the Italian newspaper La Repubblica as saying: "I asked Calipari if I should inform our American allies of the hostage-freeing operation, but his reply was that under no circumstances was the ally to be informed."   Update : Her...

An excerpt from A Short History of the Non-Commissioned Officer … “In the early days of the American Revolution, little standardization of NCO ditties or responsibilities existed. In 1778, during the long, hard winter at Valley Forge, Inspector General Friedrich von Steuben standardized NCO duties and responsibilities in his Regulations for the Order and Discipline of the Troops of the United States (printed in 1779). Among other things this work (commonly called the Blue Book) set do...

What happens when you are done with your honorable service in the military? Will you receive an honorable discharge? Certainly. Will you be eligible for veterans benefits? Of course you will be. Will you receive severance pay or a retirement parachute? Nope. Unless you are fat or out of shape that is. Sound stupid? You bet your ass it does.           This might come as a shock to t...

Update : Commenters have yet to answer this question : Can you give me a good reason for a 9 year old to be in an Internet chat room? Can you?      While there is still some confusion as to who Jessica's primary caregiver was (father or grandparents) I still find this distubing: The sheriff says a computer in the girl's home is being examined for possible clues. She'd recently taken a computer safety class about the danger of meeting strange...

One man stands ready on the center of the arena, he is alone with his thoughts and his thoughts  rage . His muscles bulge and ripple with barely contained power. Will they carry the day for him? Will he bask in the adulation of the crowd and claim the purse for one more day or will he be carried broken and possibly dead from the field of honor?             H...

Here in the Tactical Operations Center (TOC) we have 3 huge plasma screens showing various intelligence products at any given time. We track aircraft flying live collection missions. We are actually doing work for most of the day. Tere are 3 radios that we are required to respond to 24 hours a day. Ignoring all this is LTC Hajj  sitting here watching a DVD on one of our other TV at ear bleeding volume. He has his own TV in his own private room. Does he use it? Nope...

Note : (While attempting to get this to post, ForeverSerenity also posted her thoughts here .)      Over here the Super Bowl is a pretty big deal (us being a bit starved for entertainment) so nearly everyone gathered around the various TV screens in offices and MWR tents across our little post to watch the Eagles waste a lot of opportunities against the Pats. I watched alongside SFC Calangelo and a group of his stormtroopers/kool-aid slupring cultists and had a high ...

Well polls closed here a bit ago and reports are hovering at around 72% voter turnout with 22 casualties today in the course of voting (which is about a normal day in Iraq). Looks like the assclowns who wailed and screamed that we should delay the election because the Iraqis would be too scared to vote are once again wrong. Of course that may have something to do with the fact that their arguments were not based in fact but rather in a deep seated desire to se the I...

*Note    I will be intentionally vague throughout this update to satisfy any OPSEC nazis out there who still think that the opposition hasn't figured out the inprocessing procedure for the half a million troops processed since the run-up the war.      If we had had to rely on the current staff of this camp to win the first Gulf war Saddam Hussein would have had a palace in Mecca right now. Honest to god these guys couldn't find their own ass with both...

Well I got my new DCU's back from Jen's Cleaners today (the Army would grind to a halt without Korean tailor shops) and decided to finally offer up some pictures of me on my blog before I deployed. Enough hiding I say! Let the ugly truth be known! So without further ado... me and my DCU's      Additionally I am amazed at the high quality bnody armor that they gave me. The Intercepter OTV... The vest alone will stop up to 9mm rounds... ...
